For my first site evaluation I presented 1 H&P and 5 drug cards. This was the first site visit where I was tested on another person’s drug cards so it was interesting to see the drugs others in my group picked and test myself to see if I remembered information about those drugs. For my H&P I presented a case on hand foot and mouth disease. There were many patients who presented with HFMD during my time in pediatrics, however I picked one of the first cases to present. I was recommended to just write immunizations as UTD and not go into specific immunizations. Also, professor Maida talked about the use of numbing medications for the throat to help with any oral complications of HFMD.
For my final site evaluation, I presented an additional H&P, 5 more drug cards and a journal article. My H&P was about a patient who tested positive for strep. We discussed the centor criteria, complications of treated & untreated strep, and the jones criteria. It was a nice refresher to be asked about these topics and served as good prep for EOR exam. We also discussed how to calculate dosage for medications. For my journal article I presented an article on PANDAS (pediatric autoimmune neuropsychiatric disorders associated with streptococcal infections). I presented this article because I was given this topic for one of my weekly research assignments on my rotation. Overall I was able to learn a lot from professor Maida’s feedback on both my work and others in my group work.
